Asbestos removal in Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha)
Asbestos roof removal in Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha) is priced at our Gauteng rate of R150 to R250 per m², and transport to the nearest licensed landfill is quoted after the site visit. Here that landfill is in town: Aloes, EnviroServ’s hazardous-waste site in the city’s own industrial area.
Aloes is the only licensed asbestos site we found in the Eastern Cape, so waste from East London and the Garden Route can make the trip here. We take on asbestos roof, ceiling, pipe and cladding jobs across Nelson Mandela Bay, Kariega (Uitenhage) and the rest of the Eastern Cape. With Aloes this close, transport is a small line on the quote; the full breakdown is in asbestos removal costs.

Where does asbestos from Port Elizabeth go?
To the Aloes hazardous-waste (H:H) landfill, run by EnviroServ in the Aloes industrial area. A new landfill cell there was built between November 2021 and September 2022 and went into operation once the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment gave permission (Engineering News, November 2022).
The site is named as a designated asbestos site, and it serves more than the metro: when Mossel Bay municipality ran asbestos disposal open days in October 2022, the sealed asbestos was taken to a landfill in Gqeberha and the town received a certificate of safe disposal (Mossel Bay Advertiser).
The contractor books the load and brings back the disposal document regulation 21 requires. The evidence for every site is on where to dispose of asbestos in South Africa.
Where is asbestos in Nelson Mandela Bay buildings?
Anywhere built before the 2008 ban can have it, including the city’s own landmarks. A 2026 assessment of municipal buildings found asbestos roof sheets at the Feather Market Centre, asbestos-containing materials at City Hall, and asbestos to be removed from the Kariega Town Hall as part of its roof replacement (Daily Maverick, June 2026).
Schools are the bigger backlog. In 2022 the Eastern Cape education department said 1,075 of its schools had asbestos roofs, 227 of them in Nelson Mandela Bay needing new roofs, and that there was no dedicated budget to replace them (Daily Maverick, November 2022).

What does asbestos removal cost in Port Elizabeth?
Our published band of R150 to R250 per m² to strip and dispose is Gauteng pricing; we don’t publish a separate Port Elizabeth figure. A Port Elizabeth roof is priced on the same per-m² basis, with transport to Aloes quoted after the site visit as its own line. With the landfill in town, that line is short here; the new roof is priced separately.
Type any Eastern Cape address into the quote tool and outline the roof. See asbestos roof removal cost for what a compliant quote must include.
What about East London and the rest of the province?
We found no licensed asbestos landfill in East London or anywhere else in the Eastern Cape, so waste from Buffalo City travels to Aloes, roughly 300 km by road. That trip is what the transport line on an East London quote reflects.
A corrugated asbestos roof is Type 2 work, which only a contractor registered with the Department of Employment and Labour may do. Some contractors' registrations run out on 13 February 2027, so check the expiry date before you sign. Every registered name and expiry date is on the list of registered asbestos contractors in South Africa.
Questions people ask
Where can I dispose of asbestos in Port Elizabeth?

Is there an asbestos landfill in East London?
We found none. Asbestos from East London and the rest of the Eastern Cape goes to Aloes in Gqeberha, which is why transport is priced separately.
Do you remove asbestos in Port Elizabeth and Kariega?
Yes, across Nelson Mandela Bay and the rest of the Eastern Cape. Send the address on WhatsApp or use the quote tool. Transport to Aloes is quoted after the site visit.
Asbestos from Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha) goes to EnviroServ’s Aloes hazardous-waste landfill in the city’s industrial area, the only licensed asbestos site we found in the Eastern Cape; waste from East London and the Garden Route travels there too. The work needs a contractor registered with the Department of Employment and Labour and ends with a clearance certificate. Asbestos is still in Nelson Mandela Bay landmarks, including the Feather Market Centre roof, and 1,075 Eastern Cape schools had asbestos roofs in 2022. Our R150 to R250 per m² band is Gauteng pricing, so a Port Elizabeth roof is priced the same way with transport to Aloes quoted after the site visit.
